Actors Martin Short and Meryl Streep have actually been seeing each other for “well over a year now”.
Page Six has reported that all the rumours surrounding the pair’s alleged romance are true, with a source confirming that the Only Murders in the Building (OMITB) co-stars are dating, and that their romance was “completely unexpected” and even “took them by surprise.”
The source further revealed that Martin was “a gentleman” and that “Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin”, as he “keeps her laughing and is an all around positive person. She loves being around him”. Neither Meryl, 75, nor Martin, 74, had been “looking for a relationship when they started dating”, according to the source.

And it’s not just them that’s happy. The loved-up duo’s “friends and family, including their kids, absolutely approve of their relationship and think they’re adorable together,” confirms the source.
In October 2023, it was revealed by Page Six that the Devil Wears Prada actress had quietly split from her husband, Don Gummer, in 2017 – after almost 40 years of marriage. Rumours then started swirling about a possible Streep-Short romance after the pair was pictured together on several occasions in the first half of 2024. They were even spotted holding hands at an event for OMITB in August last year.
Merely Streep had previously dated and cared for actor John Cazale, until his tragic passing from lung cancer in March 1978. Meanwhile Martin had been wed to his wife Nancy Dolman for three decades, however she sadly passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010.
“Meryl and Martin have bonded over the loss of their exes,” according to an insider. Playing reel-life couple Loretta Durkin and Oliver Putnam on the Hulu show, Meryl and Martin reportedly have no plans to wed. The insider explained: “Meryl is still legally married to Don but even if she were divorced, that’s just not something that she or Martin are interested in. They’re happy dating as boyfriend and girlfriend.”
Giving further insight into their romance, the source revealed how the pair have “been friends for years and have several mutual friends” and although the couple “travelled in the same social circles, they were never really on one another’s radar in terms of a romantic relationship.”
All that seems to have changed after their fateful stint as an on-screen couple. A representative for the three-time Oscar winning actress had previously denied the claims of a romance between the Hollywood stalwarts, however inside sources had later told DailyMail.com : “It’s gotta be more than a ‘showmance’. There is definitely something there. They are the worst kept secret of the entire production (Only Murders in the Building). No one really asks them anything because they don't need to.”
In an interaction with Extra last summer about their off-camera friendship, Martin had expressed: “I think it’s been a friendship that always grows if you work with someone and love that person.”
