Oconee County sewer expansion project to move forward
WALHALLA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A sewer expansion project that once was on hold is getting the greenlight to move forward.
This comes after neighbors sued the county claiming the use of a 25 million dollar bond for the sewer line project was unconstitutional. A judge sided with the county in a lawsuit.
Back in 2023, the county received the funds for various capital projects. One of those is bringing a new sewer line to the southern part of the county along I-85.
Construction was paused during the legal battle.
FOX Carolina reached out to Oconee County Council Chair Matthew Durham about the judge’s decision.
County leaders said there is no set date for work to pick back up.
