Asia's First! PM Modi praises this 'MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT' involving 'GAGAN' satellite technology

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has praised the country's first helicopter Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) demonstration, which used GAGAN satellite technology. The service provides the accuracy and quality required for advanced air traffic management (ATM) services, according to Modi. GAGAN is a joint venture between the Indian Space Research Organisation and the Airport Authority of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Asia’s first demonstration for Performance-Based Navigation for helicopters which was conducted in India, for a flight from Juhu to Pune using GAGAN satellite technology. It was named as 'Project AKASH'
"Noteworthy milestone for the sector! It underscores our commitment to embracing advanced technologies for a safer and more efficient air traffic management," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to a tweet by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel.
Scindia, in his tweet had termed the demonstration as a fine example of the Indian aviation sector blazing a trail in innovation.
The Union Minister said that the flight from Juhu to Pune made use of the GAGAN satellite technology that enhances accuracy, allowing for high quality air traffic management.
He also congratulated the Airport Authority of India for its achievement.
GAGAN is the acronym for GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation. The GAGAN uses a system of ground stations to provide necessary augmentations to the GPS standard positioning service(SPS) navigation signal.
The GAGAN is designed to provide the additional accuracy, availability, and integrity necessary to enable users to rely on GPS for all phases of flight, from en route through approach for all qualified airports within the GAGAN service volume. GAGAN will also provide the capability for increased accuracy in position reporting, allowing for more uniform and high-quality Air Traffic Management (ATM).
In addition, GAGAN will provide benefits beyond aviation to all modes of transportation, including maritime, highways, and railroads.
GAGAN is a joint venture by ISRO and Airport Authority of India.
The Ministry of civil aviation, in a tweet has termed it as a groundbreaking achievement as the flight demonstration of point-in-space departure from Juhu Airport and Low-Level Route (LLR RNP0.3) to Pune using GAGAN has been successfully validated.
"This is the first-ever flight demonstration of Performance Based Navigation for helicopters in Asia!
It underscores the commitment made during the 4th Heli-India Summit for Project #AKASH, creating safe and efficient air corridors using the cutting-edge capabilities of #GAGAN," tweeted the Ministry of Civil Aviation through its twitter handle.
