Nigeria records highest death from COVID-19 since 2020
The single-day count of coronavirus-related fatalities hit a new record on Thursday, 14 January 2021 with 23 casualties.
On June 16 2020, the NCDC recorded 21 deaths and this will be the first time after seven months to record a number exceeding 21 deaths within a 24-hour period.
Daily oil production in Nigeria sinks to 1.17 million barrels

The organisation further disclosed that meaningful rise in oil prices would brighten Nigeria’s economic outlook this year. According to the OPEC report Nigeria’s oil production fell to 1.17 million barrels per day in December 2020, from 1.33 million BPD in November.
COVID-19: Recovered patients may be immune to reinfection for five months
Persons who have recovered from COVID-19 infections are likely to be immune to reinfection for five months after recovery – A study conducted by the Public Health England (PHE) notes.
In a report by The Cable, the SARS-CoV-2 Immunity and Reinfection Evaluation (SIREN) research led by Susan Hopkins, shows that over 80 per cent of recovered patients captured in the study were not reinfected.
The reports also explore the possibility of recovered patients transmitting the virus to others.
Court grants bail to soldier who criticised Buhari, Buratai
A military court-martial in Sokoto has granted bail to lance corporal, Idakpini Martins after he was held in custody for seven months.
Tope Akinyode, Mr. Martins lawyer confirmed the development in a report by Premium Times Thursday, 14 January 2021.
Mr Martins had, in a video, criticised the Buhari-led administration and Army chief, Buratai’s tactics in the handling of the Boko Haram crisis.
FG stick with January 18 school resumption date
The Federal Government has insisted on its January 18 date for the resumption of academic activities in 2021 – The Daily Post reports
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in a press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 stated that the resumption date as ‘sacrosanct.’ This is, however, coming in the wake of fears over a second wave of the COVID-19 Virus and the pressure being mounted by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for schools to remain closed.
