WINTERSVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — Wintersville officials have tracked down how an oil spill made its way into Walnut Park Creek.

That’s where they first noticed the spill on April 17.

Mayor Mike Petrella says it was ruled an accident by the Ohio EPA, but the person responsible is going to pay for the cleanup that will likely cost more than $67,000 dollars.

The Hazmat team has cleaned up the spill but has to finish the job by excavating the area where it was found.

There will be no cost to taxpayers.
